Eight aspiring professional footballers will land contracts with four Ghana Premier League clubs if they are able to impress former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah and his team of six scouts when the second edition of the Betway Talent Search gets underway on August 4.
The novelty event, which sets out to unearth rising talents across the country, was introduced last year by betting company, Betway.
This year’s hunt cuts across the length and breadth of the country in search of young footballers between the ages of 18 and 25.
According to the organisers, those who excel in the trial period will be recruited after being tested through a series of screening exercises by an experienced scouting team led by the current technical coordinator of the Black Stars, Appiah.
Others in the scouting team include current Black Stars assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu, Coach Eric Ofori Antwi and Twumasi Forkuo of Lizzy Sports Complex, and Godfried Aduobe, Sam Johnson and Mohammed Gargo, all former Black Stars players who have coaching badges.
The talent hunt will take place over a five-week period, commencing from August 4 to September 8, 2018.
Talented players can join the trials in Tamale on August 4 at the Nabisco Park, Sunyani on August 11 at the Coronation Park, Kumasi at the Opoku Ware Park on August 18, Cape Coast at the Adisadel Park on August 25 and in Accra on September 1 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Last year’s winner, Obed Appiah, earned a six-month trial contract with Premier League club, AshantiGold SC, while runners-up Douglas Amaning and Munkaila Ahmed were offered a three-month and a month’s trial contract for placing second and third respectively.
This year, the players will vie for eight professional contracts with the four Ghana Premier League clubs sponsored by Betway; Ashgold, Aduana Stars, Medeama.
