Esteban Cambiasso: Real Madrid amazing experience as a teen

Published on: 22 June 2017

Esteban Cambiasso has spoken of his time with Real Madrid.

The Argentine concedes he found the experience overwhelming, but also positive.

He recalled to Marca: "I was given the chance to return to Argentina after two years in Madrid B because I needed more competition. Already in the first team, the politics of the moment meant that most of the side were made up of academy players and galacticos, and I wasn't either of those. But it was not bad at all, it was a beautiful experience in fact.

"There was no continuity for my characteristics, and I drew more attention being absent from the starting line up than being present. Makelele was the same. He was not considered until he left. We are players who do a lot of work for a team and when we leave, it shows.

"At the age of 15 I found myself surrounded by the biggest stars and they treated me very well, especially Sanchis, Hierro, Redondo, Alkorta, Chendo ... later with Capello in preseason at 15 years of age...he had no immediate interest in me but was helping me for the future."
