Former Asante Kotoko coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has missed out on Guinea coaching role as French coach Didier Six has been handed the job, Footballghana.com can report.

The French gaffer has been appointed as the new head coach on Friday and tasked to steer the side to greatness.

Akonnor was among 17 coaches shortlisted for the job after Paul Put was sacked following Guinea's elimination from 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt at the round of 16 stage.

The 45-year-old was part of the five candidates selected out of the lot for the interview which was held on Thursday as they presented their project to the Federation.

Didier Six has had stints with African countries like as Togo and Mauritius.

Akonnor has vast experience in coaching with his stint at Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, Asante Kotoko and Sekondi Eleven Wise.

He has been without a club since parting ways with Asante Kotoko after guiding them to win the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition.
