Cameroon’s legendary goalkeeper Joseph Antoine Bell has hailed the changes to the timing of the Africa Cup of Nations from January/February to June/July as a positive move by the continent’s governing body.

The Confederation of African Football announced the changes to the timing of AFCON from January/February to June/July on Thursday following proposals laid down by the marketing committee of the association.

The 62 year old who was speaking on the BBC said the changes are good for players as well as their clubs.

"It is good for our players, our people and the game," he told BBC World Service.

"You cannot keep saying players should come to play for their home team while they are being paid by somebody else."

Joseph Antoine Bell was a two time Africa Cup of Nations winner and has represented Cameroon in several major tournaments including the 1994 FIFA world Cup.

Cameroon are the next host of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.
