Stephen Appiah who had joined Fenerbache from Juventus was fans favourite after his amazing displays for the club in the Turkish Super Lig and in the Champions League.

The Ghanaian had established himself as one of the best in Turkey and had offers flying in all around in Europe with Everton very interested in signing Appiah a decade ago.

However the now coordinator of the national team who was speaking on The Legends Nights TV show on GHOne indicated the Everton offer was too good to reject but President of Fenerbache at the time Aziz Yıldırım convinced him to stay with a surprising gift.

“Everton wanted to sign me but our president [Aziz Yıldırım] didn’t want me to go. So when I scored that goal against Galatasaray, I went to his office with my agent to tell him that we have got an offer from Everton and I wanted to go.

“He asked my agent to wait outside and he pulled out his drawer and he gave me 200,000 euros cash. That was 10 years ago,” Appiah revealed.

Stephen Appiah went on to play 64 times for the Turkish giants scoring 11 times in three years before moving back to Italy to play for Bologna.

The former Juventus man retired from active football in 2015 and is now part of the technical team of the Black Stars.
