Ex-South Africa Captain Neil Tovey fancies Ghana for Afcon 2017

Former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey believes Ghana are well placed to annex the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations crown in Gabon.

The Black Stars narrowly missed out to Ivory Coast two years ago on penalties and Tovey said things could turn out well for Ghana this time around.

“Ghana have been consistent since 2015 when they lost in the final.” “They haven’t changed that much and I think their consistency will pay off in Gabon.”

Tovey credited the Black Stars for their consistency in reaching the finals for the last couple of editions.

Ghana are one of the most successful teams in the continent’s football showpiece, having won it in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. They last tasted continental glory 35 years ago and will hope to turn things around in Gabon.

Ghana are pitted in Group D along with Mali, Uganda and Egypt and will begin their campaign against Uganda on January 17.
