EXCLUSIVE: Fatawu Mohammed set to replace injured Harrison Afful in Black Stars for upcoming qualifiers

Footballghana.com can exclusively report that Hearts of Oak defender Fatawu Mohammed will be invited to replace injured Harrison Afful in the Black Stars team ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Afful who plays his club football for Columbus Crew in the MLS has sustained an injury and will not be available for Ghana’s games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

Credible sources say Coach Kwesi Appiah and his technical team have identified Fatawu Mohammed as a potent replacement for the experienced right back. He will receive his invitation by the end of this week when the team begins camping.

The Hearts of Oak right-back was part of the Black Stars B side that represented Ghana at the recently held WAFU Cup of Nations tournament.

The injury toll of the Black Stars has now gone up to two with the first ruling out Mubarak Wakaso from the two AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana’s match against South Africa will be played at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, November 14, 2019, at 19:00GMT.
