Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Mr. Kurt Okraku has promised the appointment of best referees for the big game between two of Ghana’s most glamorous Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the finals on October 29th.
The two clubs are set to face each at other in a mouthwatering clash after scaling through all the stages.
However, an issue that has been of massive concern to both sides is officiating. The two sides have suffered some controversial refereeing decision this season with the common being in the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko complained when referee Samuel Suka awarded Hearts a penalty in Accra in the first leg of the Ghana Premier with the Phobians also protesting when referee Dally Gaba awarded Kotoko a penalty in Kumasi.
However, ahead of the biggest game of the season for both sides, FA Cup Committee Chairman Kurt Okraku has assured both side the best referee will be appointed.
“I think that it is fair that people speak their minds, it is fair that people speak about the ills that they think exist in the system,” Kurt told accraheartsofoaksc.com
“But it is also fair for us to also admit that there are some good referees in this country. Three days ago Ghana suffered in the hands of a South African referee, what about that? He was not a Ghanaian. I have seen top flight referees – Collina and co., - making bad calls.
“What I want to say is that the 29 of October is an “unmissable” opportunity for the crème-de la – crème of Ghanaian referees and [match] officiating.
"Everybody wants to be seen; wants to make a mark and wants to stand up and be counted so I am sure anybody who gets the opportunity to be part of this history will stand up and do a good job.”
Accra Hearts of Oak last won the FA Cup in 2000 with Kotoko winning it in 2014, when they beat Inter Allies in the finals.
