FA Cup exit was a bad day — Bechem Utd skipper

The skipper of Bechem United, Asante Agyeman, has described his side’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup as a ‘black day’ for the entire team, urging his colleagues to put the defeat behind them and focus on the Premier League.

Bechem United, the defending champions, were dealt a 4-0 whacking by regional counterparts Berekum Chelsea to send them packing from the competition they won last year.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports yesterday, Asante, 24, said: “I have been with this team for the past seven years and I can say that we have never lost so hugely to any local team before like what happened last Sunday”.

“It was a black day for us, especially being the defending champions and I can’t blame anyone for our loss. We lost concentration right from the beginning and that cost us the ticket to the next round but we will work hard to win against Medeama on Sunday to boost our morale”, he said.

For his part, coach of the side, Solomon Odwo, said the team’s current losing spree had become his biggest headache, especially as they prepared to take on Medeama Sporting Club on Sunday in their Week 19 league fixture.

Bechem were beaten 2-0 by Medeama in Tarkwa which was their fourth defeat in five games at the start of the season, and ahead of their elimination from the MTN FA Cup last Sunday, they received a 3-0 baptism by Aduana Stars at Dormaa.

In a telephone conversation with the Graphic Sports yesterday, Coach Odwo said: “I cannot blame anyone for the loss; I just have to accept it because Bechem have not been consistent with winning this season”.

The former Berekum Arsenal and Chelsea coach continued: My target is to focus and achieve better results for Bechem. Our next league game is against Medeama and we must do everything to win that game, especially as we are hoping to finish in the top four”.
