Fernando Torres Could Return to Training on Tuesday But Atletico Lose Gabi to Hand Surgery

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres could return to first-team training on Tuesday, according to reports in Spain, per theDaily Mail.


The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward spent a night inhospital after falling horribly during his side's 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna. Torres has since recovered from the head injury and could train away from his teammates on Tuesday in his bid to return to full fitness.

Meanwhile, club captain Gabi is due to undergo surgery for a hand problem.Marcareport a domestic incident saw the midfielder break two fingers and he will go under the knife on Tuesday afternoon.


A club statementsaid: "Gabriel Fernández, Gabi, has undergone tests today that have confirmed that he suffers a metacarpal fracture in the fourth and fifth metacarpal bones of the right hand. Due to this injury, our captain will have surgery today, Tuesday the 7th, to reduce the fracture and fixate it."


The 33-year-old managed to come through the whole match unscathed during Atletico's win over Valencia and will not be required to stay at hospital overnight, but he will be ruled out of the fixture against Granada.

The club will also be without Gabi for the following Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, but that is due to an accumulation of yellow cards from the Spaniard and he should be available for selection after the clash against the German side.


Torres has made 20 La Liga appearances this season, scoring five times and assisting twice, while Gabi has figured in 24 league matches.
