Not everyone in Italy is happy about Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus and Fiat workers have announced a strike in protest at the massive money deal.
The automobile company are set to subsidise part of the deal, which includes a €112 million transfer fee and €30m per year wages, something which has not sat well with several employees of the company.
Workers at the Fiat plant in Melfi have announced that they intend to strike from 10pm on July 15 until 6am on July 17 and the trade union released a statement on Wednesday confirming that action and voicing their displeasure.
“It is unacceptable that while our FCA and CNHI workers have made huge economic sacrifices for years, the company then decides to spend hundreds of millions of euros on one player,” read the statement.
“We have been told that it is a difficult time and that we need social safety nets as we wait for new plans which never arrive. But while workers and their families continue to tighten the pursestrings, the company invests a lot of money on a single human resource!
“Is that right? Is it normal for one person to earn millions, while thousands of families struggle to make it to the middle of the month? We’re all employed by the same company but in a time of enormous social difficulty, this unequal treatment cannot and should not be accepted.”
