Fifa mourns the untimely death of Ghana winger Christian Atsu

World football governing body, Fifa, has mourned the death of Ghana international, Christian Atsu.

The former Chelsea and Everton forward was confirmed dead early hours on Saturday.

Atsu was trapped in a rubble following a tragic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.

However, after 12 days of intense search, the 31-year-old was found dead.

The lifeless body of the former Newcastle United winger is expected to arrive in his native country next week.

However, Fifa in a social media post expressed their condolences to the family of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] best player.

"Rest in peace, Christian," Fifa tweeted.

Atsu played 65 times for Ghana, scoring nine goals. He also featured at the 2014 Mundial in Brazil.
