Ghana international Thomas Partey featured for Arsenal on Thursday night when the team defeated Benfica 3-2 having finally recovered from his injury setback.

The Black Stars midfielder in the past month has been receiving treatment for an injury that has been recurring since his sensational summer move from Atletico Madrid.

Coming on as a second-half substitute for Arsenal today, Thomas Partey added the needed energy in midfield to ensure the Gunners cruised to victory.

On the matchday, a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalizer handed Arsenal the lead in the 21st minute but a strike from Diogo Goncalves meant that Benfica drew level before the break.

In the 61st minute, Rafa Silva found the back of the Arsenal net to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

With the hard-fought battle that ensued from there on, goals from Kieran Tierney and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Arsenal to win 3-2 at the end of the match.

The vital win sees Arsenal progress to the Round 16 stage of the Uefa Europa League with a 4-3 aggregate win against the Portuguese opponent.

With the 27 minutes he played today, Thomas Partey impressed and could be handed a starting role over the weekend when the Londoners face Leicester City.
