Footballers are not guaranteed to be successful coaches - Laryea Kingston

Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston, has said footballers are not guaranteed to become successful coaches.

According to the former winger, former players must go through the mill to acquire the needed skills to become successful.

In an interview, Kingston revealed that ex-footballers must earn the right to be given jobs in the football industry.

“When you are managing a football club, there are so many areas that former players can go into. But sometimes, you should have that competency of the job you are expecting someone to give you,” the Black Starlets assistant coach told Joy Sports.

“You should be competent enough. Most former players think ‘because I have played football to the highest level I can be a coach. [No] You have to go through education to know where you are. Playing football is different.”

In addressing these concerns, the GFA recently launched the Ghana Football School which will be a partnership with some tertiary institutions in Ghana to provide individuals with the requisite education needed in the football ecosystem.
