Forget Christian Atsu: This Chelsea man is ideal if Newcastle want to retain their EPL status

Rafa Benitez is close to completing a deal to bring Christian Atsu to Tyneside from the capital on a permanent basis, and it will be goals the Magpies demand if they want to stay in the top-flight next season.

Whilst Dwight Gayle enjoyed a successful 2016/17 campaign at Newcastle, the club will need an experienced and widely-known centre-forward to compete with the very best – I suggest the manager attempts to sign Chelsea striker Loïc Rémy.

The 30-year-old has become a bit of a journeyman during his career in England.

Since arriving at Queens Park Rangers four years ago, the Frenchman is currently tied with Chelsea but on loan at Crystal Palace, and if Remy was obtained by Newcastle then he’d be making a return to the north-east having spent 2013/14 campaign at St. James’ Park.

His goal scoring exploits aren’t a myth either; he is regularly known for rippling the net, however, this season has been somewhat lacklustre one due to injury and he has featured in a measly five outings without reply.

Loïc Rémy bagged 14 goals in his initial spell at Newcastle United and became a firm fan favourite amongst the Toon Army, I’m sure a return to the club would be greatly welcomed by the supporters.

The France international was frozen out of the Chelsea first-team, subsequently being loaned out to Palace, and I wouldn’t expect the Blues to retain the striker for next year – so it would be fairly straight forward to tie him down to a permanent deal.
