Former Black Stars captain and AshantiGold SC gaffer, C.K Akonnor has thrown his support behind under-fire Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.

Coach Kwesi Appiah has been slammed and criticized by the media following Ghana's 1:0 loss in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers to the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Nairobi at the Kasarani Stadium.

An own goal by defender Nicholas Opoku was enough for the Kenyans to secure all three points.

But former the former Wolfsburg star is refusing to blame the coach for the defeat and call on Ghanaians to remain patient and support the team.

“It’s not always about results but the development of the team also matters,” he told Asempa FM.

“Let’s think about the way forward I believe we can qualify for the 2019 AFCON because we have the players. We have a very strong technical team. Let’s stop speculating. Coach Kwasi Appiah may be quiet but he knows what he is doing” Akonnor added.

Akonnor also gave his opinion on the Black Stars controversial captaincy issue.

“We are all getting tired of Black Stars captaincy issues. it’ not necessary. Gyan is the captain, Dede Ayew is the assistant period. I believe Gyan and the Ayews will be part of the team someday,” he concluded.
