Former Celtic Striker Predicts Jose Mourinho Is Ready to Force Smalling and Shaw Out of United Side

Former Celtic striker Andy Walker has predicted that Jose Mourinho is ready to force Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw out of Manchester United following the manager's comments after their win over Swansea.

The Red Devils picked up just their second win in nine games in all competitions after a comfortable 3-1 victory over the Swans at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, however Mourinho's comments in his post match press conference reveal that certain players are not pulling their weight, namely defenders Smalling and Shaw.

Both were unavailable for the clash after the defensive pair revealed to their Portuguese coach that they were not fit enough to play, leading Mourinho to suggest that he only wants players who will put their bodies on the line for the club and pay through the pain of a minor knock.

And speaking toSky Sports, Walker feels that both Smalling and Shaw are not 'Mourinho-type' players, and could see themselves on the brink of being forced out of Manchester towards the end of the season.

"Look at the players he's used to working with," said Walker.

"For the team, you have to do anything"

"John Terry, [Frank] Lampard, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, you can tell these guys are playing through the pain barriers.

"I think what it does tell you is he cannot trust Luke Shaw, he cannot trust Chris Smalling. When a big game comes along they won't be considered, because he's clearly trying to get them out of the club I think.

"Nobody is advocating that you have a hamstring injury and try to play through it. But the mentality to play with a knock or play with something uncomfortable, how many times has John Terry played through that under Mourinho?"

United's next fixture after the international break is a tough one, with the Red Devils travelling to the Emirates Stadium to take on title challengers Arsenal.
