Former GHALCA boss and Black Queens management member, J.Y Appiah has described local football players as second hand tyres.

Mr. Appiah indicated that local players in the country are second hand players and cannot be used to build Ghana Black Stars team.

The respected and experience football chairman insists the local football players in the country cannot be the quality players needed by head coach of the senior soccer male national team Avram Grant.

Speaking Kumasi based Otec FM, Mr. Appiah said, “We can’t use second hand players (Local Players) for building a team, we won’t get any competitive match to play after the Russian friendly game and before playing our first 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier, we are building a team.

“Some (Media) will sit somewhere and say, we should assemble local base players, if we dismantle this team and go for the local players then what is the essence of building the team? If you really follow football for quite a long time, we don’t overhaul an entire team at a time, and we are in the process of building a team towards the world cup qualifiers, so how can we go in for Second hand tyres (Local Players).

“If you really watch the game (Ghana 1-1 Rwanda), you will see that if the local base players were used, they wouldn’t have played as a team but rather played an individual game so I plead to journalist to deal issues with critical analysis because once you have a bias mind, you will not be able to come out with any meaningful discussion.” He added.
