Former Accra Hearts of Oak defender Shaun Mason October has completed a free transfer to South African First Division side, University of Pretoria Football Club.

The left-back after signing for the minnows coached by former South African international SHaun Bartlett has been forced to defend his underwhelming two-year stint with the Phobians.

He insists that he was not released by Hearts because of his poor performances but rather work permit issues forced him to exit Ghana.

"I am with Tuks (University of Pretoria) now and everything is fine. I'm happy to be in the set-up here at Tuks," October said.

"There was a problem with my work permit and it was going to take a bit of time to get it sorted," the left back said in explaining his return from Ghana.

"I reached an agreement with the club to part ways."

October is hoping to win promotion to the PSL with the Tshwane outfit. He joined Tuks during the latest transfer window, and will be part of Shaun Bartlett's side that will be aiming to win promotion back to South Africa's top tier, following the team's relegation to the NFD at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The 22-year-old spent the past two years playing for Hearts of Oak in Ghana, having joined the side from Santos in the NFD.
