Former Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has come out in defence of Jose Mourinho after video footage from Sunday showedthe Manchester United manager telling Antonio Conte that he had humiliated him.
Chelsea ran over United with a 4-0 result, and Conte's touchline antics did not go down well with his predecessor. Mourinho made sure to let Conte know how he felt, but has been on the receiving end of a bit of criticism.
Del Bosque, however, doesn't see anything wrong with Mourinho's statement, and agreed that Conte needs to be a bit more considerate with his actions near the pitch.
He experienced it first-hand during the Euros, when Conte jumped up onto the roof ofthe Italy dugout after a goal was scored, and claims that he was hurt as well.
"It did not seem like a wrong message from Mourinho to Conte," the World Cup winning ex-coach said, viaAS.
"Sometimes [Conte] has to be a little more considerate when he celebrates victories, really.
"I was also hurt when we played against Italy [at Euro 2016].
"I'm not saying don't express joy, there's no need to be as dull as me, but express a moderate joy.It is not that I am a defender of Mourinho, but he had a point."
Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Pedro defendedConte's actions.
Speaking toSpanish radio Cadena Ser, the Spain international said: "Mourinho's reaction was out of context. Conte was not making humiliating gestures or jeering.
"He was only cheering on the fans because we had played a great game and he wanted the supporters to sing in order to help us finish the game in the best possible way.
"I don't know if Mou [Mourinho] considered it a lack of respect or a provocation but that was not Conte's intention.
"Conte just wanted to thank the fans for the support. The fans were incredible.
"There was a touchline spat between the two coaches at the end of the game but I reiterate that there was no bad intention from Conte."
