Former Sports Minister Mallam Issah blasts Coach Avram Grant for “deliberately” ignoring local players

Former Youth and Sports Minister Mallam Issah has taken a swipe at Black Stars coach Avram Grant for what he describes as a deliberate attempt on his part to ignore the home based stars.

Grant called up four local players for Ghana’s final Afcon qualifier against Rwanda but only one in the person of Asante Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed made the final squad.

Ghanaians have raised serious concerns with Grant’s decision not to give more playing time to the locally-based players whenever they are invited.

For Malam Issah, Avram Grant is lazy and doesn’t think he has anything good to offer Ghana.

”Avram Grant talks nonsense, he talks rubbish, if the Ghana Football Association is bigger than any politician then am very surprise. What exceptional players has Avram Grant added to the Black Stars? He is still using the old players Coach Kwesi Appiah introduced to the team,” he told Takoradi-based Spice FM.

“The Coach is doing nothing with the Black Stars. I previously suggested let’s support Coach Kwesi Appiah and resolve issues with him so he can manage the Black Stars rather than bring foreign Coaches. There are so many talents in Ghana if we are to utilize them it will help in developing our football.”

Former Minister, please the situation is very complex here. This is a very wrong time to do express this. Yes we need to use locals but is very volatile to say this at this time. Nii Lante is destroying a delicate football configuration that Ghana needs for the world cup qualifier. Just be patient. Don't muddy the waters.
