Former Super Eagles head coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has expressed sadness following the investigation into the involvement of Dr. Amos Adamu in the ongoing FIFA corruption scandal.

Adamu who is a former FIFA executive committee member, was previously banned after he was implicated in corruption allegations concerning fiercely criticised votes selecting Russia and Qatar as hosts of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups respectively.

And just this week, the FIFA ethics committee named Adamu among several football officials subject to "formal investigation proceedings relating to the suspicion of infringement" with no further details provided. In a chat with completesportsnigeria.com, Onigbinde described it as unfortunate.

"I don't think any Nigerian will be happy that a Nigerian is involved in this type of situation. Whether Adamu is guilty or not, I don't know.

"I don't have details of the facts of the case. But I don't feel happy because Adamu is a personal friend, honestly it's most unfortunate," Onigbinde lamented to completesportsnigeria.com

Meanwhile, other people being investigated include German football legend Franz Beckenbauer and senior vice president Angel Maria Villar whose cases have been passed to the adjudicatory chamber for a verdict by the ethics judge.
