Atalanta won 1-0 over Cagliari and notched up their eight consecutive win in the league, improving their record, scored their 100th goal in the season and consolidated their fourth place, moving to within a point from third-place Inter and five points from second-placed Lazio.

“We kept the game open, which we should have finished off long before – the Nerazzurri coach said after the match-. We undoubtedly did well in the first half, but then, when we gained the numerical superiority, we were no longer lucid and accurate while finishing, despite having the chance to put the game to bed, instead tiredly dragged on until the end”.

“It wasn’t our best performance – the Nerazzurri manager continued -, but we got our eighth consecutive win in Serie A… Perhaps the match against Napoli weighed, the journey, we are playing every three days… These are alibis, we had to finished it off better, maybe we showed a little mental fatigue for the first time”.

Gian Piero Gasperini reiterated Atalanta’s main objectives for this season, which are to finish in a position that allows Atalanta to qualify for the Champions League next season and set a new points record. In addition to that, to prepare well for the next UCL Final Eight tournament in August. The manager is satisfied with the contribution of Tameze and Šutalo, lined-up from the first minute against Cagliari and also with what Iličić showed.

Now back to Bergamo and head to the next fixtures, next up is on Wednesday at the Gewiss Stadium against Sampdoria.
