Gattuso keeping his calm

Gennaro Gattuso has played down AC Milan's start to the season, insisting they still have work to do.

The Rossoneri impressed during their opening defeat to Napoli and got off the mark on Friday with a dramatic 2-1 win over Roma.

Franck Kessie put Milan ahead before the break, only for Federico Fazio to grab an equaliser on the hour. However, after both sides spurned chances, Patrick Cutrone fired in a winner deep in stoppage time.

We still need to become a team in some areas.

The San Siro erupted and the home coach and his players received plenty of praise from the media in the aftermath.

It has been a relatively barren few years for the club but the strides they made following Gattuso's appointment in November, plus their solid summer business, suggests they could be in for a strong season.

Milan are 5/6 to finish in the top four but the 40-year-old was keen to play down their start to the campaign, insisting they still have plenty of areas where they need to improve.

"It's the second match and already people are asking me if it's a turning point," he told Sky Sport Italia. "There were huge regrets over the defeat to Napoli, we played even better in the first 45 minutes tonight.

"There are four or five sides who have strengthened this season and we're one of them, but I can't talk about a turning point after two games. I know how our lads work and that we still need to become a team in some areas.

"We can't think that we'll control every game against any opponent. We have to play the ball and that's essential."

Milan are also involved in this season's Europa League and can be backed at 25/1 to win the tournament for the first time in their history.
