Ghanaian young coach and ex-footballer Gerald Asamoah has been confirmed team manager of Bundesliga side, Shalke 04 instead of head coach as reported earlier.

Veteran Dutch coach Huub Stevens was appointed to be in-charge of the side until the end of the season.Having former Shalke 04 player Mike Bueskens and Gerald Asamoah on board as assistant coach and team manager respectively.

Stevens was presented on Friday, a day after Schalke 04 dismissed Domenico Tedesco.

“We will play with this constellation until the end of the season,” Schalke 04 sports director Jochen Schneider said.

The 33-year-old Tedesco led Schalke 04 to the runners-up spot last season but the team is now languishing 14th in the table.

A 7-0 UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg humiliation at Manchester City on Tuesday proved the last straw.

Stevens, 65, had two previous spells in charge of Schalke 04, winning the 1997 UEFA Cup and two German Cup titles.

His first game in charge will be Saturday’s home match against third-placed RB Leipzig.

“Schalke 04 are in a precarious situation,” Stevens said.

“Now it’s not just about the players, but the whole of Schalke 04. We all have to pull together and be a family,” he said.

Stevens said he was in good health but would not have returned to coaching had he not been approached by Schalke 04.

He has been a member of the club’s supervisory board since June.

“I would not have done it for any other club,” said Stevens who has also coached Bundesliga sides Hertha Berlin, Cologne, SV Hamburg, VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim.

“The first task will be to get the heads clear and get back in place Schalke 04’s traditional virtues of fight and passion.
