GFA appoints Charles Kwablan Akonnor as new Black Stars coach

Former Asante Kotoko trainer Charles Kwablan Akonnor has appointed new Black Stars head coach, according to Angel FM.

The 45-year-old, who penned a two-year with Ghana Football Association on Tuesday takes over from Kwesi Appiah who was shown the exit door last month by the FA due the dissolution of the technical teams of all national teams.

Before the dissolution, coach Akonnor was part of Kwesi Appiah's team  technical team that defeated South Africa and São Tomé and Príncipe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He has vast experience in coaching, having managed Ghana Premier League clubs including Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, Asante Kotoko and Sekondi Eleven Wise.

He led Asante Kotoko to win the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition in 2019.

Footballghana.com understands that Ibrahim Tanko has also been named the assistant coach of the team.

The former Hearts of Oak and Kotoko trainer made 41 appearances for the Black Stars and was named captain of the team following Abedi Pele's retirement.
