GFA is not responsible to develop pitches – Albert Commey

Executive member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who double as the Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Stars, Albert Commey, has debunked proclamation suggesting that the GFA should be held responsible for the poor nature of Ghanaian football pitches.

The state of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium became a major talking point after the Black Stars’ abysmal performance against Rwanda in the 2017 AFCON qualifier on Saturday September 3, which ended in a one-all draw.

The head coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant, after the last AFCON qualifier against Rwanda, he complained bitterly about the poor state of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium, describing it as the worst he had seen in his coaching career.

Speaking to Accra based Class FM in an interview, Mr Commey said: “Whose responsibility is it to develop pitches in this country? The FA has a programme to develop pitches but the responsibility lies elsewhere. So, those who are saying it is the GFA have a misplaced agenda. For me, they need to know that the GFA is doing its best but that will not be enough so we need to know what government is also doing because they have a social responsibility towards the masses.”
