The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to pay CK Akonnor $275,000 after sacking him as Black Stars coach on Monday.

Coach Akonnor took over from Kwesi Appiah and qualified the team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. However, he made an unconvincing start to the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, winning 1-0 against Ethiopia and losing 1-0 to South Africa.

The 47-year-old was on a two-year deal with a salary of $25,000 monthly. He is still owed several months as it was reported the month prior by the Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif said that the former Asante Kotoko trainer’s salary was seven months in arrears, approximately $175,000.

In essence, Akonnor is owed a total of $275,000.

He won four, drew two, and lost four of his 10 games in charge of the team.
