Vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie has commended the impact of smaller Clubs in Ghana’s premier knockout competition, the MTN FA cup.

The draw for the MTN FA cup round of 32 was held on Wednesday at the M Plaza Hotel where some big clubs were drawn with smaller clubs.

The round of 64 provided Ghana Football with some shocking results when Premier League sides Aduana  Stars and Ahantigold were ousted by lower division sides Eleven Wonders and Asokwa Deportivo respectively.

Owner of Okyeman Planner, George Afriyie indicated at the draw for the round of 32 that the FA Cup has lived to its tag of “obiyia ny3 obiyia.”

“Clubs that will come to this competition without any pedigree but maybe a previous participation or a previous campaign in the Premier League and I’m referring to when clubs like Nania FC won it for the first time, we had Edubiase winning it in their second year in the Ghana Premier League and until recently Bechem United, a new club that has been in the league for less than five years,” he said.

“This competition is not the preserve of any big team in the Ghana Football. It is a competition which has the slogan “Obiyia ny3 obiyia” and it has lived to that billing.”

Bechem United are defending Champions of the MTN FA cup and had the extra incentive of representing Ghana at the CAF Confederations Cup.
