Ghana defender Andy Yiadom featured for Reading as they began the 2022-23 Championship campaign with a 1-0 defeat in Lancashire as Blackpool scored the only goal of the game.
Yiadom lasted the entire duration of the game as the Royals battled hard to get back into it and dominated the second half but couldn't find an equaliser their efforts deserved.
Callum Connolly's early goal in the 9th minute of the game propelled the home side secure all three points.
Josh Bowler struck the post for Blackpool but the game then flipped, with a reinvigorated Royals pressing upfield and forcing the home side to bring more bodies back in defence.
They came inches away from equalising but were denied by a pair of quick saves from goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw.
Despite Reading having more of the possession and Blackpool falling flat in the final 30 minutes of the game, the Tangerines were able to hold on to their lead.
Reading have now lost their opening league match of the season in five of the past six seasons.
