Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has expressed satisfaction after he was awarded with the Ohio Health Humanitarian Award at his club side Columbus Crew.

The Ghanaian who joined Columbus Crew last season has affected many lives in the community and his efforts were duly recognized by the club earning him the 2017 Ohio Humanitarian Award.

In his first year in MLS, Jonathan Mensah was active in the Columbus community, donating time at multiple events with organizations like Make-A-Wish, Habitat For Humanity, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and others while also assisting in clinics for challenged youth from the Linden area and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio.

The former Free States Star defender insists Charity has been a part of him and he was delighted to be rewarded for an activity he loves.

“For me I always like to share and always like to help those in needs, it has been part of me and I have been living with it.

“Before every season we are given forms to fill asking us what kind of charity works we want to do because the Club (Columbus Crew) also have their own foundation.

“They monitored my works and at the end of the season they gave me an award for that I am very happy.

“Getting rewarded for something you like doing is just a great feeling and I am very happy.”

Jonathan Mensah enjoyed a good debut season in the MLS and played 31 times in all competitions including 25 starts in the league.
