Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has stated that his outfit spent US$ 15,000 on defender Jerry Akaminko when he suffered a career-threatening injury in a pre-2014 FIFA World Cup friendly.

Akaminko missed Kwasi Appiah's final squad for the competition after breaking his leg in Ghana's final trial game with the Netherlands.

Many stated that, Akaminko was left to take care of himself despite injuring himself whiles on international duty. But Ghana FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi insists, the former Heart of Lions defender was never abandoned.

"We catered for him during his injury and I can tell you that we spent over $15,000 on him," Nyantakyi told the Graphic Sports.

"I remember I personally led him to a hospital in Florida where he began his rehabilitation so, for someone to say we neglected him was a lie."
