Ghana football is a real winner as Nyantakyi secures FIFA Council position

Ghana football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has secured victory for Ghana football after going past his opponents in the FIFA council elections held in Cairo today.

The GFA boss who is now set to represent Africa on the new-look Council where Africa has been given two additional seats in FIFA’s cabinet, will certainly give Ghana a lot to smile about as his position there gives the nation some intriguing benefits.

Lobby on behalf of the country in decision making Being on the FIFA cabinet means Nyantakyi gets closer to the decision making body and has the chance to have a say on policies the Football world governing body seeks to implement. His closeness to the top office then gives him the chance to lobby on behalf of Ghana.

Hosting of FIFA tournaments Ghana has never hosted any FIFA tournament before, be it at the youth or senior levels. However, the country has won a couple of FIFA tournaments before at the youth levels. They are two times FIFA U-17 world Cup champions and the only country from Africa to win the U-20 world cup. With this impressive record, Kwesi Nyantakyi’s presence at Football’s world governing body will afford the country an opportunity to host a FIFA tournament.

Referees appointment for tournaments Ghana has struggled to produce referees for FIFA organized tournaments over the years and with Kwesi Nyantakyi’s influence on the executive council, young and upcoming referees could be upbeat about their chances of getting more opportunities out there.

His election could boost his ambition of becoming CAF president Kwesi Nyantakyi has risen through the rank and file of football from Ghana to Africa. He has not stated equivocally anywhere that he wants to be the CAF president but his ambitions of getting a seat at FIFA puts him in a position that will make a likely candidate for the CAF presidency when Issa Haayatou decides to step down. Nyantekyi is already a member of CAF’s executive committee, one of the most hardworking personalities in matters relating to football at the organization.

Solicit for more funds in the FIFA goal project The astute lawyer and head of Ghana Football Association has distinguished himself as one of the most respectable persons in football. As the head of GFA, he has managed to acquire funds to develop the game in Ghana. Amongst some of the project the FA president has been able to solicit funds from FIFA to do, are the Ghanaman soccer school of Excellence, he has been able to acquire jerseys, football boots and bibs for the National U-15 league.
