Ghana international Emmanuel Boateng failed to convert a penalty for Rio Ave in the Portuguese top-flight.

Boateng, who joined the club in the summer has been outstanding, scoring four goals in nine matches so far.

The former Levante striker had the chance to double Rio Ave’s lead after his compatriot Abdul Aziz Yakubu had opened the scoring from the spot.

But the former China-based attacker was unable to convert from the spot with the score staying 1-0 in favour of Rio Ave.

The win on Saturday sees Rio Ave rise to ninth on the league table with 18 points, five points outside the top four place.

The 26-year-old will hope to maintain his fine form to make a case for a return to the Black Stars in the future.

Since his Black Stars debut in May 2018, Boateng has made seven appearances scoring one goal in the process.
