Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan hails team effort as Cremonese beat Napoli to progress in Coppa Italia

Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan has hailed his Cremonese teammates following their qualification to the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia.

The 19-year-old emerged as the hero when defeated Napoli on penalties to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Afena-Gyan made a substitute appearance and made his presence felt after scoring three minutes to full time to force the game to extra time.

Charles Pikkel gave Cremonese the lead after 18 minutes before Napoli restored parity in the 33rd minute through Juan Jesus.

Three minutes later, Giovanni Simeone scored to give the Italian giants the advantage.

With both sides levelled after three penalties, Stanislav Lobotka missed Napoli's fourth kick.

Osimhen levelled with Napoli's fifth kick before Afena-Gyan sent Cremonese through by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Reacting to the win, the former AS Roma forward shared his excitement about the team’s victory.

"A fantastic team effort tonight. Congratulations US Cremonese for qualifying to the next stage of the Coppa Italia. If we believe, we can achieve," he tweeted.

The Ghana forward who has been struggling for playing will hope to his exploits against Napoli can earn him game time.
