The 30-year-old climbed off the bench to replace Odsonne Edouard in the 76th minute as the Eagles progressed to the third round of the competition.

The win ends a run of four EFL Cup exits without scoring for Palace, who had lost their last four games in this competition including twice on penalties.

Second-half substitute Jeffrey Schlupp fed Frenchman Edouard to fire past Oxford keeper Edward McGinty in the 71st minute.

Milivojevic made it 2-0 from the spot on the stroke of full-time after Ayew drew a foul in the box.

Ayew has made four appearances for Crystal Palace this season in all competitions and is yet to find the back of the net.

The Black Stars forward was a mainstay in Patrick Vieira’s side last season, making 31 Premier League appearances, scored three goals and provided three assists.
