Ghana gear up to feature in four-nation tournament to help prepare for 2022 FIFA World Cup

Black Stars of Ghana are gearing up to feature in a four-nation tournament to help prepare for 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Coach Otto Addo, on Thursday, called up 33 players for the tournament dubbed Kirin Super Cup 2022 and will be hosted by Japan between Friday, June 10 to Tuesday, June 14, serving as build-up to the global showpiece.

Skipper Andre Ayew, who missed the World Cup play offs against Nigeria has returned to the squad after serving his two-match suspension.

Also, returning to the squad are Mubarak Wakasso, Jonathan Mensah and Kamaldeen Sulemana. The three players have not featured for the Black Stars since the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Hearts of Oak’s Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah have also been included in the squad.

Ghana will take on Madagascar on Wednesday, June 1 and Central African Republic on Sunday, June 5 in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers before travelling to Japan for the tournament.

The Black Stars will face the likes of Japan, Chile and Tunisia. Among the four nations to be involved in the tournament, only Chile failed to make it to the Mundial, which will be held in Qatar later this year.

Ghana will play Japan in the opening game of the friendly tournament on June 10 while Chile and Tunisia go head-to-head in the other game.
