The Black Meteors of Ghana will miss the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after losing 6-5 on penalties to South Africa in the third-place match of the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African side went into the tournament which has been staged in Egypt hoping to secure qualification to next year's Olympic Games.

Their first attempt which could have landed them an automatic qualification to the Olympic Games ended disappointingly when they lost to Cote d'Ivoire in the semi-finals of the CAF U-23 AFCON.

Needing a win against South Africa this afternoon to keep the Olympic dream alive, Ghana has failed once again after suffering another defeat through penalties. This time around it was South Africa that dispatched the Meteors after playing a 2-2 draw at the end of 90 minutes of soccer action at the Cairo International Stadium.

In line with the result today, Ghana's men soccer team will not feature at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
