Ghana Premier League Matchday 8 report: AshantiGold hold Hearts of Oak to a stalemate

Published on: 06 February 2020

Hearts of Oak only took a point against AshantiGold despite creating a lot of chances from the start of the game to the end.

The Phobians started in a lively fashion. They came close to scoring early on. A howler from Frank Boateng provided a great opportunity for Daniel Afriyie but he blasted his effort over the bar from six yards.

AshantiGold also fashioned some chances on their own. A brilliant cross from Eric Donkor found the head of Benedict in the 36th minute but the ball was saved by Richard Attah.

The Phobians did more of the same in the second half but they were unsuccessful. AshantiGold however came close once again. Benedict won a header but failed to direct the ball past Richard Attah.

Hearts of Oak got the breakthrough through Daniel Afriyie in the 70th minute but the referee ruled the goal out for offside. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.

Hearts of Oak have still failed to beat AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium since 2014. AshantiGold are now in 4th place with 14 points and Hearts are 9th with 11 points.
