Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has parted ways with Turkish side Kayserispor ahead of the start of the 2019/20 season.

Gyan, 33, joined Kayserispor in 2017 following the expiration of his contract at Chinese side Shanghai SIPG where he was one of the world's best-paid football players on the continent.

The former Sunderland striker struggled for consistency at the club due to persistent injuries.

Speaking to reporters at the Accra Academy School Park, he said, “I’ve ended my contract with Kayserispor in Turkey so I am free.”

Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Ghana national team, with 51 goals. He represented the Black Stars at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

With 6 goals, he is the top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup.

He has also represented Ghana at the 2004 Summer Olympics and in seven Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017, helping them finish in third place in 2008 and runner-up in 2010 and 2015.

He has previously played for Sunderland, Al Ain and Udinese
