Ghana winger David Accam scored his twelfth goal of the season for Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer but suffered a 3-2 defeat to Latif Blessings Sporting Kansas City.
David Accam once again started from the bench once again but came in in the 55th minute to score the second goal for Fire.
The hosts opened scoring in the 23rd minute when Daniel Salloi led the quick counter attack and raced down the Fire’s right flank. Salloi’s shot took a fortuitous deflection off Bastian Schweinsteiger and into goal.
Five minutes later the Fire equalized when a Matt Polster whipped a cross into the box. Sporting KC captain Matt Besler attempted to clear the ball but accidentally redirected it into his own net.
Sporting KC regained the lead right before halftime. Graham Zusi took the ball to the endline and cut the ball in for Latif Blessing, who snapped his header towards goal. Fire ‘keeper Matt Lampson made the initial point-blank save but the ball fell to Benny Feilhaber, who bicycle kicked it in to the open goal.
Kansas City would get their third goal of the evening in the 51st minute. Daniel Salloi laid the ball off for Diego Rubio. From ten yards out, Rubio sent in a left-footed attempt that bounced off Blessing and just inside the far post.
The Men in Red pulled one back in the 78th minute. Dax McCarty played a diagonal ball and found Patrick Doody on the left flank.
The Homegrown defender took a touch and slotted the ball through to David Accam at the top of the six, where the Ghanaian calmly redirected past Melia.
