Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil loses out on 2023 Ebony Shoe award despite stellar form

Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil has been outstanding for KRC Genk this season, but it seems his efforts have gone unnoticed after losing out on the 2023 Ebony Shoe Award.

The award given annually to the best African or African origin player in the Belgian Pro League at the end of every season was held on Monday, May 22, 2023 in Belgium.

Despite his fine form, the Black Stars winger was unable to scoop the prestigious prize on Monday.

Paintsil could not beat competition from his Genk teammates Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye, who bagged the award.

The Rwandan star has provided a record 23 assists and scored eight goals in 35 league games for Genk this season whiles the Ghana international has 15 goals and 11 assists in 34 games.

Eric Addo remains the only Ghanaian to have scooped the award. He won the prize in 1998 during his spell with Club Brugge.

The 25-year-old winger has been in blistering form since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, having been involved in 30 goals in all competitions for KRC Genk.
