Ghanaian attacker Asumah Abubakar will feature for Swiss top-flight side FC Luzern after completing a move to the club in the ongoing transfer window.

The 24-year-old penned a two-year deal with the club and is expected to play a huge role for the club.

He leaves FC Lugano after just one season to join compatriot Samuel Alabi at the club.

“Asumah Abubakar is moving from FC Lugano to Central Switzerland with immediate effect. The 24-year-old Ghanaian with a Portuguese passport has signed a contract until June 30, 2024 and will be training with Mario Frick’s team this afternoon” a statement from the club reads.

Abubakar was transferred from Holland to SC Kriens for the 2019/20 season, where he managed to score no less than 22 goals and 10 assists during a season and a half. With these numbers, the native Ghanaian quickly played his way into the notebooks of various Super League teams, from which FC Lugano made the race for the coveted striker during the winter break of the 2020/21 season. The fast and lively striker was also able to prove his qualities in the Super League and scored ten points in a total of 42 games.

“We are convinced that Asumah Abubakar will strengthen us with his qualities on the offensive,” said FCL sports director Remo Meyer on the occasion of the signing of the contract. “He’s a constant source of trouble on the field and also has the necessary scorer qualities that we need.”

Asumah Abubakar will train with the team for the first time this afternoon and will wear the number 21 shirt from now on. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer modalities

We are delighted to welcome Asumah Abubakar to FC Luzern and wish him all the best and every success.”
