Ghanaian forward Francis Atuahene scores twice as San Diego Loyal beat Tacoma Defiance in USL Championship

Ghanaian forward Francis Atuahene bagged a brace for San Diego Loyal as they defeated  Tacoma Defiance 2-1 in the USL Championship on Wednesday.

The game was played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the area.

San Diego took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute courtesy a goal from Atuahene who fired past Tacoma goalkeeper Trey Muse following Collin Martin's free kick which landed at his foot at the far post.

Tacoma Defiance scored the equaliser through Dhillon’s first goal of the season in the 56th minute.

The 23-year-old bagged his brace in the 85th minute following an assist from Jack Metcalf to claim all three points for San Diego Loyal.

The victory was the first in franchise history for San Diego.

Atuahene, who spent last season on loan at Austin Bold FC joined USL Championship expansion side on loan from MLS outfit FC Dallas.

He is a product of Right to Dream Academy and signed for FC Dallas last year.

He has also featured for USL side OKC Energy on loan, however he was reduced to just eight appearances due to injuries.

He scored two goals as OKC finished 10th in the Western Conference with 43 points.
