Ghanaian defender Gideon Mensah says playing against Real Madrid during a pre-season friendly game was 'normal'.
The 21-year-old played full throttle for Red Bull Salzburg as they lost 1-0 to the Los Blancos during the pre-season in Austria courtesy a 19th-minute strike by Eden Hazard.
Mensah, who put an incredible performance says it was a normal game for him and his teammates.
“When we were told that Madrid wanted to come and play with us, initially everyone was quiet. And our Sporting Director was like we must be happy because it was Madrid coming then we all started talking,” he said.
“There was nothing like pressure on us because we were not thinking of beating them but were just relishing the opportunity of playing against the top guys and just to play and enjoy the game.
“I was not being aggressive to myself of playing good but I kept telling myself that it’s an opportunity to sell myself and thankfully I played well,” he added.
“It was a normal game,” he noted.
Despite playing so well during the pre-season, he joined Zulte-Waregem on a season-long loan where he believes he will have enough playing time.
