Ghanaian midfielder Benjamin Acquah registered his name on the scoresheet on opening day of the Swedish Superettan on Monday when Helsingborgs IF defeated Gefle IF.

The former Ebusua Dwarfs marksman was handed a starting role as his outfit cruised to an away victory on Monday.

Acquah delivered an outstanding performance to help his side secure 3-2 win over their opponent at the Gavlevallen as the 2024 season got underway.

Helsingborg opened the scoring after 23 minutes into the game through Taylor Silverholt, who converted from the spot.

The Ghanaian midfielder scored to doubled his outfit advantage, four minutes later after connecting from Wilhelm Loeper assist.

The visitors dominated play and went to the recess with the advantage in the crucial encounter.

Two minutes after the halftime break, the home team reduced the deficit after Adrian Edquist found the back of the net.

But in the 59th minute, Wilhelm Loeper fired home the third goal of the match to seal victory for Helsingborg in the encounter.

In the 76th minute, Adrian Edquist scored his second goal of the match for the home team but it wasn’t enough to save them from defeat at the hands of Helsingborg.

Acquah, formerly of Ebusua Dwarfs, had a decent campaign with Helsingborgs last term with 27 appearances, scoring twice.

He begins the new season on the bright with a goal in the first league match of the season.
