Ghanaian shot-stopper Richard Ofori explains why he turned Mamelodi Sundowns

Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori has lifted the lid on the reasons why he turned down Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 26-year-old had a successful trial at the Chloorkop-based from Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars (now called Legon Cities), but the move fell through.

According to him, he opted to sign for Maritzburg United because he was not guaranteed playing time at Sundowns.

"I first came here for trials at Sundowns and after they gave me that opportunity they decided they would sign me, but because of (no guaranteed) game-time, I then came to Maritzburg. I have obviously grown-the Richard that came to South Africa three years ago is not the Richard that you see now,'' Ofori revealed in a virtual press conference.

''I have the experience and I know how things are done now, so automatically I won't be the same player."

''But the most important thing is that now I am enjoying my time here at my current club-I can't talk much about what the future holds, I am concentrating more on Maritzburg United," he added.

He has been linked with a move to several clubs following his mouthwatering performances for his side with Orlando Pirates and Belgian outfit Gent ready to sign him in the summer.
