Ghanaian international, Gideon Mensah has suffered a career-threatening injury that is set to sideline him throughout 2023.

The 22-year-old defender has been looking forward to the start of the Swedish 2023 Allsvenskan to take his career to the next level.

Unfortunately, he has picked a cruciate ligament injury at training this week. After his injury on Tuesday, additional tests confirmed that it is serious and he will have to miss the entire 2023.

His club Varbergs BoIS FC are devastated and hopes his recovery will be very smooth.

''Very sad for Gideon with the injury but he has an extremely strong will and determination which means that he will fight hard to get back. We look forward to a motivated Gideon for the 2024 season!,'' a club statement over Mensah's injury by the team medics led by team doctors Karl Norinder and Anders Ekström said.

On his part, Varbergs BoIS FC Manager Jocke Persson described the situation as sickening.

'It's sickeningly boring and life as an athlete is not fair but Giddy is strong as a lion and will return again this time. Now we wish him the best rehab and hope he will be close to the group all year as often as possible as he is an important piece with his lovely attitude and his big smile,'' Persson said as quoted on the club’s website.

Despite the setback, Gideon Mensah is staying strong and is confident he will be back better than before.
