Ghana's win won't change - GFA Communications Director Asante-Twum tells South Africa FA

Ghana Football Association Communications Director, Henry Asante-Twum says Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Bafana Bafana in the 2022 World Cup qualifier won't change despite South Africa’s protest for match-fixing.

The World Football governing body, FIFA is set to commence a review of the match after receiving a complaint from the South Africa Football Association (SAFA).

Bafana Bafana needed a draw against the West Africans on Sunday to reach the third and final round of African qualifying, but Ghana won 1-0 with a controversial first-half penalty in Cape Coast.

Daniel Amartey went down following what appeared minimal contact from defender Rushine de Reuck, who was booked for his challenge.

"That is all they [South Africa] can do. We don’t think we gave them a raw deal. The referee on the day was okay," Asante-Twum told Joy Sports.

"We’ve been to places where officiating did not go our way but we did not comment. Things will not always go your way. They set up to defend and until we scored and got to the last 15 minutes of the game, that’s when they started piling pressure in need of the equaliser.

"We respect their decision. They can go to Fifa but I’m afraid, I don’t think it will change the outcome of the game. We won fairly and fought very hard for it. We are glad that we are through to the next stage."
