Ghana’s world cup qualifiers opponents Uganda Coach Milutin Sredojevic critical of AFCON changes

Head Coach of the Uganda national team, Milutin Sredojevic is unhappy with changes to the Cup of nations insisting Africa has succumbed to the pressures from Europe.

The Confederation of African Football confirmed last week that the tournament will be held in June and July instead of January and February and will be expanded to 24 teams from 16.

Meanwhile, Sredojevic who was leading his side in a CHAN qualifier over the weekend against Sudan, a game they won 5-1 said after the game how disappointed he was of the changes made.

"Though not directly, Africa succumbed to the pressure of Europe to have this tournament played when it's best for them," Sredojevic told BBC Sport.

"I have never believed some of these theories that come from Europe on having the Afcon in January and February," added the Serbia-born coach.

The Serb made history when he qualified Uganda for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017, after 39 years of obscurity.

He then added, the decision of CAF was based more on the marketing and money rather than the quality to be exhibited.

"The Congress and the people who made the changes I am sure have looked at the marketing and money side of the tournament more than the quality."

Uganda are in group L of the 2019 Africa Cup of nations qualifier and in the same world cup qualifier group with Ghana.
